Join GroundWorks DanceTheater in Tremont's Lincoln Park on August 14 and 15. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a beautiful summer evening with music and dance. Bring your family and friends as well as lawn chairs or blankets. The program will include "Boom Boom" by Artistic Director David Shimotakahara, a tribute to the legends of the American Blues, including John Lee Hooker, Aretha Franklin, Odetta and others, as well as "Allow" by Artistic Associate Amy Miller with original music by Oberlin's Alex Christie. The program is sponsored by the City of Cleveland, Parkworks, Councilman Joe Cimpermann and Tremont West Development Corp. GroundWorks DanceTheater is imagination you can see. Critically celebrated as an "artistically significant" ensemble, GroundWorks explores the nuances of the human experience through unique and adventurous choreography. This exciting, eclectic work brings audiences face-to-face with fresh, fascinating performances of passion, intellect and humor. Artistic director David Shimotakahara founded GroundWorks in 1998, determined to challenge the preconceptions about dance. From its Northeast Ohio base, this group of outstanding artists has introduced dance lovers and neophytes alike to an experience that is unconventional, yet deeply human and resonating. From performing in unusual settings to featuring live musicians onstage, GroundWorks enriches its work with subtle layers of meaning that deepen the impact and enjoyment for the audience. This desire to push the boundaries is also evident in Shimotakahara's bold initiative: To constantly seek collaboration and input from ground-breaking choreographers of the highest caliber and to make certain that the repertoire of the company is constantly evolving. Additionally, GroundWorks is committed to giving back, through inspiring, education outreach programs for which it has been recognized with Ohio Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts funding. By never settling, by stretching even its own definition of what's possible in dance, the company now in its eleventh anniversary season continues to grow and attract new audiences.

I DON'T THINK SO is a play made up of 15 monologues. Written by WILD WOMEN WRITING member Katherine Burkman, the monologues are unified only by the fact that each character (age range 10-72) says "I don't think so" at some point, rebels all. Produced by Sherrie Hawk (who will host this at her Sherrie Gallerie) and WILD WOMEN WRITING, the play will be presented as a staged reading. The event is free and open to the public. Make reservation at 614-457-6580.
